With nearly two decades of experience as a mental health therapist specializing in perinatal mental health, I have dedicated my career to supporting individuals through the transformative experiences of pregnancy, birth, and parenthood. In addition to my work as a therapist, I’ve also served as a doula, childbirth educator, and college professor. My passion for understanding and improving maternity care led to my dissertation research, where I explored the complexities of birth in America.
As one of the first in my state to earn certification in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International, I’ve been deeply committed to my roles as an educator, activist, and provider for years, working to expand access to evidence-based maternity care and mental health services. I founded Meadowlark Clinic to create a space that offers compassionate, decolonized therapeutic support to individuals and families. Beyond serving our clients, I’m passionate about mentoring the next generation of therapists.
In my practice, I take an eclectic approach, incorporating EMDR, mindfulness, ACT, feminist, and narrative therapies to meet clients where they are. I have a special affinity for working with those who experience anxiety and aim to create a space where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered in their healing journeys. I love collaborating with my community, especially when it involves supporting small, local, and minority-owned businesses. Kirby Nelson (she/her) is a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner serving adult patients experiencing mental health symptoms impacting their daily functioning. Kirby believes in a holistic, patient centered approach to psychiatric care and utilizes evidence-based pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment modalities. Kirby's area of expertise is reproductive and perinatal psychiatry and enjoys working alongside child-bearing individuals to improve their mental health and overall well being.
Kirby completed her doctoral degree (DNP) through the University of Minnesota School of Nursing in 2015 and has provided mental health care in primary care clinics and traditional mental health settings in Oregon, Iowa, and Minnesota. She has also received her certification in perinatal mental health.
Outside of clinical practice, Kirby enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She finds contentment when biking on her cargo bike with kids in tow, exploring natural spaces, doing yoga, and drinking coffee while reading a good book.

We believe interns should be paid; however, insurance companies do not pay for services provided by an intern. In order to ensure our interns can be paid for their time there is a $25 out of pocket charge per appointment.
Debi (she/her) has an accounting degree from ISU and has worked as an account manager prior to staying at home for a few years with her now 7-year-old son. Debi is our behind the scenes support wizard and we are so glad to have her on the team!
The Meadowlark is native to the grasslands and prairies of the Middle and western United States. The bird builds their nest on the ground making it inherently vulnerable to risk. According to our friend and colleague Kara of Joyful Resonance Meadowlark's nature encourages us to ask how we can safeguard what is sacred to us. The bird serves as a metaphor for the experiences and journeys of those who are seeking support and healing during the perinatal period. The Meadowlark bird, through its characteristics and behavior, represents resilience, embracing life's challenges, and nurturing vulnerability.
The name "Meadowlark” captures these qualities and embodies the values of our clinic. It symbolizes resilience, the importance of prioritizing mental health, and the significance of providing a safe and supportive space for individuals during the perinatal journey.
