appointments are available for individuals and couples. we also offer ongoing therapy groups throughout the year focused primarily on perinatal mental health, birth, parenting, and relationships.
the covid-19 pandemic made telehealth appointments a necessity and as a result expanded coverage for the service. this has increased the ease and accessibility of mental health services for many individuals. folks in our practice (who often have their hands full tending to little ones) benefit from this service and we're happy to provide it!
while we're happy to provide a telehealth option we know that for some being in-person in the office with your therapist is preferred. we're happy to welcome you to our physical office location. we hope you'll find it cozy and welcoming for you and your "in-arms" baby.
when you choose us, you join a community. We work not just with you but with other members of our community to build a network of people working together for a healthier world.
participating in therapy can be an effective way to navigate feelings, learn better behaviors, and process thoughts differently. All therapy includes compassion and empathy. The theoretical approach of the therapist will also influence the course of therapy. Psychoeducation – teaching about how the mind works - is often a focus of therapy sessions as well. Having a good rapport with your therapist is essential to the healing relationship. All therapists are trained in techniques to build this rapport, meet their clients where they’re at, and promote comfort.
In your first session, your therapist will spend some time getting to know you and the issues that brought you into treatment. They may use a formal, structured interview, or it may just feel like a more free-flowing conversation. Your therapist will ask questions about your presenting concerns, as well as your history and background. Most likely, you’ll find yourself talking about your current symptoms or struggles, as well saying a bit about your relationships, your interests, your strengths, and your goals. Most importantly, in that first session, you will begin making a connection with your therapist. You should feel safe, accepted, respected, and relatively comfortable. Not all therapists are right for every person, so use your first session to assess whether or not the therapist you chose feels like a good match for your personality.
